The massage modalities that I perform are Swedish deep tissue, neuromuscular therapy(NMT), trigger point treatment, and hot stones. In a Swedish massage it is a basic massage that is relaxing and has no deep work. This massage is at a pressure of about a 5 on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being low pressure 10 being painful.. Deep tissue starts off as a Swedish massage to warm up the tissues but then you go into the clients pain threshold. Normally this is about a 6-7 on the scale. There is usually soreness after this massage from the muscles being worked. NMT is a more specific deep tissue. Normally the massage is more focused on a specific area. Trigger point treatment is working out those knots and kinks that are usually in your back and neck though they can appear anywhere on the body. The pressure used is usually about a 6-8. This modality can cause some light bruising and soreness. In a hot stone massage the stones are warmed up and I massage you with these stones in the ares that you would like. The warmth from the stones helps your muscles to relax.. Drinking plenty of fluids before and after the massage reduces any soreness that the massages can cause.
